Elena Gomez Ochoa

my mum decided to take me to a dance school and since my first day I have never stopped dancing.

Elena is studying BSc (Hons) International Management at the University of Bath and has been selected as an Arts Scholar for 2018-19. Elena shares how her interest in dance began, what inspires her and what she has been working on ahead of Platform, the annual arts scholarship showcase.

What is your background in your chosen art form?

My interest began when I was 4 years old. Every day I would come back from school and I would show my mum dance steps that my friends who were in ballet had taught me. So my mum decided to take me to a dance school and since my first day I have never stopped dancing. I have managed to finish my career in my ballet school as I have completed all the courses until I left for university. I have taken part in every Christmas and summer performance such as the Nutcracker, the Sleeping Beauty, Copellia and Don Quixote and for the past year I was grateful to be chosen as the principal dancer.

What have you been working on ahead of Platform?

Some musicians will play some classical pieces, and I have created a choreography. This gives me the opportunity to perform my own creation with live music.

Do you find any links between your creativity and your course?

Not really as I am studying international management, although sometimes I get inspired by cultures and that is an important part of my course.

What/Who inspires, influences or drives you?

I am inspired by my emotions, feeling and daily events that I want to reflect in my dances. Moreover I think that my personality and also my favourite artist and music pieces inspire me.

Do you have any other creative pursuits?

We’d like to thank Santander for the generous support for this Arts Scholarship.
