For five weeks in Autumn ’16, The Edge galleries were home to free talks, demonstrations lectures, workshops and events where ‘know-how’ was shared between individuals and communities.
Events were aimed at those with a fondness for self–improvement; and interest in learning new practical skills. Those who hold environmental concerns were also catered for. Proceedings kick started The Edge’s contributions to the University of Bath’s 50th anniversary and took inspiration from the 500th anniversary of Sir Thomas More’s 1516 text Utopia in which the writer depicts a civilization who adopt a communality of possessions.
Creative, informative, practical sessions for everyone included Knowledge Cabaret where University of Bath academics gave audiences a digestible bite-size serving of their research, events throughout Global Climate Change Week and our practical ‘How-To’ series. Participants and knowledge-imparters ranged from University of Bath staff and students, artists, local community leaders and members of the public from bee-keepers to gardeners.
