Painting from the model: a 3-hour afternoon workshop led by tutor Alex Roberts
The workshop caters for people of all abilities in our light and airy Art Studio, and seeks to provide a good block of time to deeply engage with observational painting. This luxury, three-hour platform (with an interval break at the half way point) offers experimentation within life drawing, stimulating imagination and enhancing skills.
New approaches to tackling form, shape, line, proportions and the use of tone within the drawing process is the agenda via liquid view of colour. The goal is to build confidence and provide the tools to develop observation and drawing abilities.
Media will include drawing (pencils, graphite, charcoal, and coloured inks, acrylic paint) and a plethora of traditional and new mark-making techniques. The workshop will involve both group and individual tuition from the experienced tutor, and use male and female life models (unclothed).
This painting session is designed to be enjoyed in its own right and work in tandem with the morning’s focus of preparatory, drawing skills, working from the model.
Alex is a superb tutor. She is encouraging, eloquent, understanding and welcoming
TUTOR: Alex Roberts is a British artist, a collaborative researcher who curates, and an educator who lives and works between Berlin and the UK. She works with paint and translucence, addressing paintings’ surface, layers and spatial depth, via the play of colour and immediacy of marks. Testing the sliding scales of how we perceive identity, change, encounters, and human tangibility.
Alex exhibits internationally. Curating and facilitating visual art projects is a research method; an extension of her studio practice. Alex completed her MAFA at Chelsea College of Arts (UAL), following a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Reading. She continues to work at The Edge, as an Artist Tutor alongside Drawing Projects UK and The Drawing Week, Bath School of Art & Design, Bath Spa University. New lecturer roles for 2019 include: Stretching Klee’s line: drawing for our digital age, Bauhaus Summer School, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. www.alexroberts.com
