Brought to you by Bath Dance, find out more about how Jean Abreu works as a choreographer by taking part in this challenging and rewarding workshop for advanced dancers, based on his new work, Solo for two.
The British-Brazilian choreographer Jean Abreu has spent exactly half of his life in Brazil and the other half in Britain. Solo for two is the second solo production of a trilogy in which he explores his own identity in-between.
In the first solo BLOOD, he focused on the inside of the body: the cell structures of blood and other fluids; dialoguing with the visual universe of Gilbert & George (who collaborated on the project) through interactive technology and projection. Solo for two focuses on the outward journey: how a migratory identity is created by cycles of loss (letting go) and new beginnings.
Jean Abreu has toured throughout the UK, Europe and Brazil including performances for London Dance Umbrella, the Royal Opera House and the Southbank Centre. His work in theatre includes choreography for the Young Vic’s Amazonia and The Red Room’s Oikos and Protozoa productions. He also collaborated with the Mavron String Quartet to create Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Jean has been an Associate Artist at The Place, Swindon Dance, South Hill Park and the Hat Factory and an Artist-in-Residence at Dance East.
This workshop is aimed at advanced dancers.
