Cara has enjoyed a varied and prestigious career at the top of the Irish music folk genre, as both part of bands such as Equation and Oige and in collaborations with, amongst others Kate Rusby, Paul Brady, The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and The Ulster Orchestra.
Born into the Irish music tradition, Cara has also worked on a wide variety of projects which prove her versatility outside of the folk genre. Cara’s ‘Black Is The Colour’ was an Ibiza club sensation in a techno remix by 2Devine, she appeared on 2009 Children In Need single, ‘All You Need Is Love’ alongside Peter Gabriel and Terry Wogan, and sang and narrated on the Disney soundtrack for Tinker Bell And The Great Fairy Rescue. In January 2012, Cara recorded ‘Come Dream A Dream’ as the climax for Disneyland Paris’s night-time spectacular.
Cara says of her work, “Some folk musicians want to know every detail about a song, and I really empathise with that, but it’s not what’s important to me, I just identify with a song. I’m looking for something that touches me deeply, and I feel like I’m the vessel for letting it live on.”
Cara joins us here at The Edge on May 12, with husband Sam Lakeman, in what promises to be a very special evening. Hear Cara
