CYCLE EVENING FREE ADMISSION 7PM-9PM
An evening for anyone interested in cycling from curious beginners to fully fledged lycra-clad road bikers. Come along to see what’s on offer in Bath and the surrounding areas, including Sustrans, Bath Cycle Campaign, Julian House bike mechanics and Take Charge bikes. Have a go on an electric bike, find out about volunteering with Sustrans, safe cycle paths and routes, cycling clubs, how to get anything delivered from local shops by bike and more. Julian House bike mechanics will be on hand to give your bike a once-over and minor repairs.
CYCLE QUESTION TIME
We’ll round off the evening with a Cycling Question Time to discuss all things cycling, exploring the future, possibilities and solutions. Everything from blue-sky thinking to the psychology of traffic to those pesky hills will be covered in a lively session. Dave Atkinson of Road CC will chair views from Sustrans’ Jon Usher, University of Bath’s ‘cycling professor’ and Senior Lecturer in Psychology Ian Walker, Alison Sherwin who works as Senior Engineer (Accessibility and Cycling) at B&NES and Cycle Bath’s Adam Reynolds. All discussions will be opened out to the audience. TALK STARTS 8PM
JULIAN HOUSE DR BIKE WORKSHOP
We are delighted to be joined by Julian House bike mechanics for a Dr Bike workshop, part of the social enterprise run by Julian House. Dr Bike mechanics will help you with safety checks, basic tune-ups, advisory maintenance reports, and will be selling and fitting replacement brake blocks, inner tubes, cables and cable outers, so bring your bike for an expert once-over.
Volunteers on the Sustrans stand are there to tell you all about local cycle paths and how you can help, from keeping off road cycle paths open to engaging the local community and deciding how you want your streets and green spaces to look in the future. Have a chat and pick up some route maps.
TAKE CHARGE BIKES
Take Charge will be with us with some bikes to try out, so if you love cycling but don’t love hills, give it a go, it’s a fantastic way to get around and it works like a regular bike, but with power assistance when you need it.
